Pardon me while I vent/rant...The adopt-don't-shop crowd are reactive and not proactive. You don't fix the shelter problem by rehoming the dogs in the shelter right NOW. You fix it by keeping FUTURE dogs out of the shelter...by educating people on how to breed and buy responsibly. If we found a home for every dog tomorrow, the shelter would be full again next week.
You have to fix the problem. "Don't breed dogs" doesn't fix the problem. People are going to want dogs! Teach people how to find good breeders and how to BE good breeders so that dogs don't get abandoned in the first place. Teach them how to health test to avoid creating health problems that lead dogs to he dumped. How to temperament test to avoid breeding dogs with temperament problems. How to use puppy temperament tests to properly match puppies to the right home. How to be responsible and refuse to sell too homes that aren't a good fit for the breed or aren't financially stable or don't have the proper physical set up to contain the dogs.
Fix the PROBLEM, rather than managing the results. And that's about education and supporting GOOD breeders
